What good are they anyway? 2006-07-18

this review is not to be critical of this product. I don't own this specific
model but something like it. I have found these borocsopes to be
practically useless in investigations. they look good to the client. But (I use
them mostly for mold investigation) you can't see much field of view and
it's difficult to tell if there's mold most of the time. Worse, you don't see
mold (there is mold there) and you say you don't see mold. I trust
sampling - not a boroscope.

  Great optics, limited use 2006-07-15

I've been using this for about a year now, mostly in mold investigations.
While the optics on this unit are excellent and much improved over
previous models, I still find the borescope in general to be of limited value
due to the small size of the optical piece. Even if the view is sharp and
clear, how much can you tell when you're only viewing 1/4" at a time ?
Drywall dust and dirt can't be differentiated from mold (optics too small)
and although I have been able to confirm mold inside wall cavities on a few
occasions, most of the time I cannot. It's just another tool in our arsenal
but I wouldn't consider it a must-have purchase.
