The NEW Surveymaster incorporates two modes of operation - Search and Measure - that enable the user to distinguish surface moisture from sub-surface moisture, essential information when trying to establish the extent and cause of a moisture problem.

Moisture level values are shown on a digital display along side a scale of color coded lights that indicate the moisture condition of the material. This combined presentation of moisture measurement helps the user to map the extent of problems and monitor changes in condition precisely and reliably.

In the measure mode the meter can be used with:

  • A two-pin head-and-lead for awkward corners and under work surfaces.
  • A set of Deep Wall Probes that are insulated except for their tips providing quantitative WME readings at depth, regardless of surface moisture and surface contamination by salts.
  • An optional Hammer Electrode (BLD5000) for quick and easy measurement at depth of the moisture content of timber.
  • The instrument is supplied with pouch, moisture probe, deep wall probes, calibration check device and wood calibration table.

Protimeter Surveymaster
This was my first meter to purchase after my infrared camera and I would
be lost without my Protimeter. It is an easy to use and handy instrument-

The surveymaster allows for detection and measurement on a wide
variety of surfaces. The combination penetrating non-penetrating feature
makes it one of the best moisture meters on the market. It also comes w/
attachments so that deep walls can be probed.

I've used this meter for four years and I'm on my third one. I am very
comfortable with its accuracy in both modes. Its compact size is an
advantage. When my 1st meter went bad, they replaced it with a new one
free. When I damaged my 2nd one, the repair charge was reasonable.
Then GE bought the company and now they won't repair, just replace,
even if the repair is a simple one- not a good policy.

One problem I have is the cap. Some way of retaining it would be very
desireable. Because it is small, it is easy to lose. There are 3 caps in 3
crawl spaces and the pins on my meter have been naked for some time
now.

I have the model previous to this, but it has always worked faithfully. It is
extremely durable -- it has come out unscathed from many a drop, and it
lasts a long time on just a few batteries. My only recommendation for
improvement would be for the numbers to light up along with the light
meter, so the user can see the actual reading in a dark space. But, for all
I know, the new model has this feature.

I have the model prior to this one but have had very good performance
from the meter. I only use it 2-3 times per month but have been doing so
for four years. The only minor problem I had with the older version is the
buttons were under the plastic cover and the plastic did wear through. It
still works and I see the new model has changed that feature.

If I were stranded on a deserted island with water-damaged buildings, I
would hope to have the SurveyMaster with me. The ability to do quick
non-intrusive scans with the radiofrequency sensor, and then drill down to
a specific area with the pins makes moisture mapping easy.

I purchased this product about 5 years ago. It was (and still is) sometimes
a toss up between the protimeter and the Tramex moistrure encounter. I
thik the combined pin (measure) mode and search (radio) mode are
essentail to be able to do a complete investiation of moisture problems in
buildings. Thus, some of the other brands (with out search mode) don't
qualigy. I have been very happy with the protimeter. The only time I
suspect I would like a Tramex is because the Tramex has a scale which
changes depending on the material (wood, concrete, plastr, etc). But this
isn't that importnat. Just take relative readings of backround materilas of
similar structure and compare to the surfaces you think are damp. One
feature I really like with the Protimer it that it comes with a extension cord
for the pins. This comes in handy if your're trying to poke the celing but
have the meter down close to you where both you and the client can read
it easier.
