World Leaders in Moisture Measurement and Dampness Diagnosis

The Protimeter Moisture Measurement System (MMS) is a complete moisture measurement device for use in many different building related industries. The MMS combines pin type and non-invasive moisture meter together with a thermo-hygrometer in one state-of-the-art instrument.

The MMS Plus incorporates grains per pound calculation, important when monitoring the drying out of buildings. The MMS Plus is also standard with data download software and a cable for capturing and downloading up to 1000 results to a PC.

The MMS can be used systematically to:

  • Identify the presence of moisture on and below surfaces and beneath coverings like ceramic tiles.
  • Measure the reletive humidity dewpoint and temperature
  • Confirm the presence - or otherwise - of condensation on surfaces.
  • Data log up to 999 results for upload to PC.(see accessories)

The instrument is compact and simple to use, having a large liquid crystal display and a cluster of just four buttons for selecting the operational modes. It is supplied in a sturdy carry case together with the necessary accessories for a complete moisture survey.

When used as a moisture meter, the MMS has two operational modes known as Search and Measure. By selecting Search mode and holding the instrument against building materials such as walls, the user obtains a qualitative indication of the moisture level beneath the surface or behind a covering like tile or flooring. By selecting Measure mode and using the standard pin or 5" deep wall probes to gather further information at the surface and up to 5" in depth below the surface.

The MMS can be used as a hygrometer to measure relative humidity, ambient temperature and dew point. In this way the moisture condition of domestic and commercial environments can be assessed and compared.

The hygrostick® sensor that is supplied with the instrument can also be embedded in solid floors and walls to obtain a material equilibrium relative humidity (ERH) value. This technique has been widely adopted by the flooring industry to establish if floor screeds and slabs have dried sufficiently prior to laying decorative floor covering. Increasingly, this technique is being used for a wide variety of moisture measuring/monitoring applications in building materials.

For assessing the risk - or confirming the presence - of condensation on surfaces the MMS is used in Condensation mode. When the Surface Temperature Sensor is connected and held against a surface, the MMS displays the difference between the surface temperature and the dew point together with text messages that confirm whether or not condensation is occurring.

My personal favorite all around meter 2006-11-01

I kind of miss this unit. If I could do the same "trigger" style counts that I can with my delmhorst, I would switch back to it in a moment.

The non-invasive is more useful than the delmhorst moisturecheck's but far less useful than a tramex.

The hammer probe is extremely large and poorly designed. Dri-Eaz did recently launch a large box for this unit, however it is a little un ergonomic.

Batteries last literally forever.

I, also, use this instrument regularly, and it has been a convenient asset to
our equipment stock; however, I do have one problem with the
thermohygrometer's range of performance (Range 30 - 100 %rh
Range 32 - 122 deg F) when working in freezing climates, measuring
dehumidifier output, etc. My suggestion is to keep these limitations in mind
if you are working in a field that may require you to record psychrometrics
outside of this unit's performance. I believe there is an additional
attachement you can buy from GE that will allow you to record rh below
30% and temperatures below 32 deg F. One further note I can make on
this product is that GE stands behind it. They have been great to us in the
past.

I use this instrument sometimes daily, and it always works flawlessly. I
have used other moisture meters, but none have the features or ease of
use as this unit. I highly recommend this product.
