The collector is a moulded plastic device with an inner dust collector which fits onto the wand of a vacuum cleaner. After collection, a cap is applied to the bottom of the collector and the dust is extracted with 10ml buffer in a 5 minute extraction procedure
The reason why I love these dust collectors is that they can attach to a powerful household vacuum. When compared to using a pump and a MCE filter cassette, there is no comparison. You can get a lot more dust for allergen sampling with these dust collectors.
I'm not sure what the pore size is of the filter. It's always important to compare that to the contaminant you are trying to measure. Something large like animal dander, cockroach and dust mite allergens will be picked up easily with this cassette.
These cassettes seal up nicely for transport which reduces cross contamination. To my knowledge it does not have a serial number on it which would be a nice feature to have.
