Having read nearly every type of cassette over the last several years, I've
noticed a few things that may or may not matter to the person sampling.
The Air-O-Cell forces air through a slit that produces an area of deposition
on a slide that can be rather variable. It also has perhaps one of the
largest areas of deposition to examine which produces a greater
coeffecient of variation, hence a lower percentage of reproducibility of
results. The Micro5, on the other hand, has the smallest area of deposition
and is easily reproducible over 100% of the area of deposition. The
disadvantage to the Micro5 being that you are taking either 1/3 or 1/6 the
sample size of an AOC, and will thus have a Detection Limit of about 40,
rather than the typical 7 or 13 with the AOC. The compromise between
the two seems to be the Allergenco D. With an area of deposition about
2/3 the size of the AOC, it reads faster and has a greater reproducibility of
results, or lower CV if you prefer.

If you're looking for lower cost, it seems the AllergencoD, being a new
product, s offered for a reduced rate. If you're looking for greater
reproducibility, this is an improvement over the 'gold standard' AOC. If
you're not wanting to have to convert anything from your AOC setup, the
AllergencoD is compatible. The AOC has many more years of documented
use in practice, but that doesn't necessarily make it superior.

Allergenco Spore Trap - Normal performance and was compatable with my
pump. Cost was ~$5 each - reasonable.

Every bit as good as the air-o-cell but with better capture efficiency
especially for the smaller spores, like Asp/Pen. Several places are offering
the Allergenco-D cheaper than the AOC especially if you buy in bulk. No
complaints.
