Been using this in the field daily for about 3 years now and find it's an
invaluable tool in IAQ investigations. My model is HPPC-6. Six channels
which can be programmed at the factory for .3 to 5 microns or .5 to 10
microns. Screen gives Temp and RH, a nice bonus except my Temp/RH
gauge stopped working as soon as warranty expired. Many times this
instrument has pointed me directly to the problem but of course sometimes
can get false readings or the issue is not particulates or something else
interferes. Can also be used to test efficiency of HEPA filters, vacuum
cleaners, air purifiers.
Based on my personal experience ...
Pros: works hard, sturdy piece of equipment, well made, can withstand
extreme heat and cold and other physical abuse.
Cons: Acts up when battery is low (black screen, blank screen), even if
unit is plugged in, must wait for batteries to recharge a bit to get screen
back. Rechargeable batteries must be replaced often (read: send to factory
each time). Service from manufacturer leaves a lot to be desired, very
slow turn-around time, no response to communications, ignore calls.
